National Apprenticeship Week is back for it’s 16th year of annual celebrations

The week highlights the importance of apprenticeships and the positive impact they can have on the careers of people from all ages and backgrounds, as well as businesses and the wider socio-economic effects on local communities.

Apprenticeships are particularly important within the construction industry as they are crucial to addressing the skills shortages.

As a collective, our framework partners are committed to providing opportunities for apprentices through employment and training initiatives. Some great examples of this are SCAPE providing 236 weeks of training on site in the last 12 months and also MHA+ almost doubling their target for apprentice starts (as of October 2022).

YORhub: Focussing on Employment and Skills outputs

A fantastic example of a project which has delivered impressive social value outputs is the ‘Heart of the City’ scheme procured through YORhub and delivered by Galliford Try.

Throughout the construction of the £28m regeneration scheme in Sheffield, Galliford Try’s team have worked hard to enrich the local community and bring a greater social value to the development.

Galliford Try is delivering Phase Two of the scheme to rejuvenate an underused area of the city of Sheffield which includes eight premium retail units, four townhouses, 52 apartments, and 3,000 sq. ft of prime office space.

The city centre project has had far reaching community benefits that will leave a lasting legacy and has reached or exceeded all employment and skills targets. As part of the YORbuild2 scheme, the development had an in-depth employment and skills plan involving local schools, colleges and universities, providing a range of initiatives using technology and creativity suitable for all ages and skill levels.
